The first record released by Factory includes three tracks by John Dowie. Great stuff from Joy Division, Durutti Column and Cabaret Voltaire. A real classic.
John Dowie a wildly humorous poet, song sketcher and on-stage comedy antics. Released an e.p. on Virgin Records, Another Close Shave, six tracks including British Tourist (I Hate The Dutch). A hit in Holland and a song you sometimes need.
Yo La Tengo's fundraising request-radio shows (for WFUM in Jersey City USA, I think) has been destilled into this album of covers. It's still for sale thru the Yo La Tengo website. So order it before it's too late. And yes they are murdering the classics!
This compilation is the first of a serie of compilation to cover "The story of British Independent music". I bought this hundred years ago and I think it's out of print. Anyway I haven't manage to find anyplace you can buy it. It contains classic tracks from Buzzcocks, Stranglers, Dead Boys aswell as more obscure from Johnny and the Self Abusers, Radio Star and The Banned.
You know your a snob when look thru this book and nothing is new to you. It's great fun actually. Just one question for you before you start reading. Who is Steven Daly?
An old friend of mine said he wanted some mp3s of the The Chills 'cos his vinyl records had been storage somewhere and he desperately wanted to hear them again. So here is a compilation of rarities from 1980-2000 with New Zeeland's almost best pop band (I like the Bats). It has been sold out.
This rocking no brakes cdr release is by the swedish group Labop. It's actually a trio with two Suredo members. It was recorded in Linköping 2001 with Jörgen Wärnström of Cloudberry Jam. It got some airplay back then and I still like it.
In "Our band could be your life" you can read about the early stuff of Hüsker Dü. Here is an early studio demo from late 1979. Included aswell is two outtakes from the Statues-session from 1980.
Sometimes it's fun to read about music. This one have some good anecdotes about some of my favorite band of the 80's. Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, Beat Happening, Butthole Surfers, Black Flag, Dinosaur Jr.
Here's the only LP with the swedish indiepop band Suredo. Released in october 1993 on Ceilidh Productions. Sometimes people ask me for it so I thought I put it out here so you all can hear it.
Once upon a time to hear good music you had to listen to foreign radio shows, read foreign music papers and swop cassettes with your friends. When you finally found something you really loved you saved your money to buy it. This blog just want you to hear good music so you can find the things you love.
Any problem with that please let us know and we make sure no one hears anything of your stuff from us.
